THE DESIGN STUDIO
The big design houses commonly take on too much work, and as a result it is common for them to subcontract the work out. Many of them send me their overflow. This means your double or triple the rate for the same design. As a freelancer, I can keep my overhead low and as a result the savings is passed on to my clients.
The design studio is where I bring your ideas to life using a variety of the latest professional design and support software. I create your product in many ways. Some start on a napkin, then progress to the sketch pad and drawing board where I create concept sketches and design boards evolving the product through visuals and reviews with the client, then when we are ready I move to the cad system where the design comes alive.
Mechanical Designer with a multifaceted design background that includes orthopedic medical device implant and instrument design, consumer product design, custom machine and work holding fixture design. In addition to design I am also an accomplished project manager having managed most of the projects that I was tasked with designing, from the concept phase to the production phase. A secondary skill that compliments my career as a mechanical designer and project manager, is my knowledge of manufacturing processes in all aspects of manufacturing. This experience comes from my tenure as a Toolmaker and Machinist early on in my career.
Over the years, I have been fortunate with the clients I have been able to work with. The list ranges from the big medical device companies, industry leaders in the Aerospace industry, and a variety of big companies serving the consumer market. However, the most rewarding aspect of working as a freelance engineer and product designer is being able to work with a diverse group of clients in many different industries. The most rewarding aspect of freelancing is being able to help the average person who has a brilliant idea bring their product to market. Many of them are working on a shoestring budget and no idea how to even start.
A FEW SAMPLES OF MY WORK
This is a consumer pet product I designed for a wonderful client in Moscow. We started this project with some crude sketches of his Idea and have evolved it to the consumer market. Managing this product through to production has been very exciting. Its always great to see my designs come to life.
This was a challenging container to model. I was given the sketch below and asked to make a 3D model of it with a removable hat so product could be stored inside. The closure is air tight and tamper evident. Below the sketch are some renderings of the 3D model that I did for the client. This was a very fun project to work on.
Below are a few samples of some bottle and labeling I designed and rendered to be photo realistic. Gotta admit, I has a bit too much fun with this one.
